RHINOCEROS

By Eugene Ionesco.

Presented by Blue Raincoat Theatre Company.

What happens when the citizens of a small town – bar one tardy and disaffected drop-out -begin transforming one by one into a herd of rampaging pachyderms? Will the louche Berenger manage to cling to the scraps of his humanity when the town Logician, the Grocer, the Humanist, the ubiquitous Old Lady and even his closest friend Jean, are sprouting horns and turning a distasteful shade of grey? You can only predict things after they have happened.

Blue Raincoat Theatre Company has delighted audiences at the Everyman Palace in recent years with acclaimed productions of The Bald Soprano, also by Ionesco, and their two original stage adaptations of Flann O’Brien’s The Third Policeman and At Swim-Two-Birds.

Rhinoceros is a searing and bleakly funny study on human nature, and one of the seminal dramatic works of the last century.
