DOUBT – A PARABLE BY JOHN PATRICK SHANLEY REPLACES A SKULL IN CONNEMARA IN NEXT YEARS PROGRAMME.
Winner Pulitzer Prize & Tony Award for Best Play
Due to unforeseen circumstances the production of Skull in Connemara will not go ahead the week of Tue 28 February 2012, as originally programmed. This show has been replaced by Doubt - A Parable, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner for Best Play.
In this brilliant and powerful drama, Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of improper relations with one of the male students.
John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama Doubt poses a troubling question: Is Father Flynn, the forward-looking Catholic priest inappropriately involved with a twelve-year-old boy? Or does that allegation spring from the suspicious mind of Sister Aloysius, an aging, dour disciplinarian?
What makes Doubt so fascinating are its many unexpected twists and turns. When you arrive at the end, you have more questions than answers—more doubt than proof.
Running from Tue 28 Feb to Sat 3 March, 8pm.

ONE OF THE LARGEST TOURING PROJECTS IN IRISH THEATRE 'DRUIDMURPHY' VISITS THE EVERYMAN IN 2012.
A major celebration of the work of Tom Murphy and the largest touring project in Irish theatre in 2012
19 actors, 12 theatres, 3 countries
Druid announced today details of the biggest theatre project in the company's history, DruidMurphy, a celebration of the writer Tom Murphy through his epic tales of Irish emigration spanning 1846 to 1980. Beginning in Galway in May next year, it will make its London premiere on June 23rd at Hampstead Theatre, as part of London 2012's Cultural Olympiad. From August to the end of October the production will tour in Ireland, the UK and USA.
Told through three of the greatest plays by Tom Murphy, Famine, A Whistle in the Dark and Conversations on a Homecoming, DruidMurphy is a major retrospective of one of Ireland's most respected living dramatists by a theatre company internationally renowned and celebrated for large-scale theatre performances.
DruidMurphy is directed by Garry Hynes – “probably the foremost interpreter of Irish drama in the world today” (The New York Times). It is the largest touring project happening in Irish theatre next year and will feature an ensemble cast of 19 actors and a touring company of 32. The cast of DruidMurphy includes Niall Buggy, David Herlihy, Aaron Monaghan, Rory Nolan, John Olohan and Marty Rea. The productions will be designed by Francis O'Connor, with costumes by Joan O'Clery, lighting by Chris Davey and sound by Gregory Clarke.
Garry Hynes, Artistic Director with Druid, commented, “Tom Murphy's work has been essential to Irish life, to Irish theatre and to the development of Druid. It's been a long cherished ambition of ours to put together an ensemble company to perform a cycle of his plays for audiences all over Ireland and abroad. I am thrilled that with the help of the Arts Council, Culture Ireland and our three co-producing partners that we now finally have the chance to do that.”

NEW SEASON LAUNCHED AS PAT TALBOT DEPARTS AS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Outgoing Everyman Palace Theatre Artistic Director, Patrick Talbot, has unveiled his parting programme for the venue at a reception to mark his departure.
Being Artistic Director of the Everyman Palace has been the most satisfying decade of his working life to date, said Patrick. "It has been a unique privilege to make a contribution to sustaining the life of this beautiful Victorian theatre. I could write pages of personal highlights. But above all it was spending most of my time for the last decade in this old jewel box.
I haven’t counted the total number of presentations we have had in the last decade, or the number of performers, actors, musicians etc. that we have hosted, but I know it is a considerable number. Similarly we have had huge numbers of ticket buyers coming through our doors. What has been particularly satisfying to me has been the four-fold increase in our audience for drama over the last decade. A significant percentage of this increase has been students and young people generally.
I want to particularly thank those production companies, producers, promoters and performance schools who keep faith with us, year in year out, many of them local, and who make a huge contribution to the health and welfare of the Palace.
The key to developing our audience has been the diversity of what we have presented on the stage. I want to thank the general public of Cork city and county and beyond for embracing that diversity."
Michael White, Chairman of the Everyman Palace Theatre said: “In the 10 years Pat Talbot has been at the Everyman Palace he has transformed the organisation. He has put in place a formidable team, capitalised on their strengths and given them the authority to get on with what they do in the best interest of the Palace. On behalf of the Board and the staff, thank you so much for your time here and we wish you the very best of luck with your new projects.”
This forthcoming season at the everyman, which also sees the arrival of incoming Artistic Director, Michael Barker-Caven, features a wide variety of shows from the Abbey’s "B For Baby" to Pan Pan’s "The Rehearsal, Playing the Dane", classics like Arthur Miller’s "The Crucible", "Equus" by Peter Schaffer, "Rhinoceros" by Eugene Ionesco, and the Tony McCleane Fay’s superb production of the musical version of Wedekind’s "Spring Awakening", transferring from the Granary Theatre.

23 June 2011 – Corn Exchange presents world premiere, Man of Valour at the Everyman Palace Theatre
Dublin actor Paul Reid, well known to TV audiences as Dylan in RTE’s enormously successful series RAW which returns for a fourth series in the Autumn, is in Cork this week starring in the World Premiere of “Man of Valour”, the latest show from Cork Exchange, which opens at the Everyman Palace Theatre on Thursday night, June 23rd.
Paul has been coming to Cork regularly for the last number of years, to the Midsummer Festival, but this is his first time to actually appear at a featured show. “Me and a bunch of my mates have been coming down for the last five or six years. We’ll usually go to a number different events and also get to sample the fantastic nightlife in the city.”
Paul, from Portmarnock in Dublin is a graduate of the Gaiety School of Acting and has previously appeared in, and toured with, The Corn Exchange in “Dublin by Lamplight.”
“Man of Valour” will tour to the Edinburgh Festival and to the Dublin Fringe Festival later this year.
8 June 2011 – Cork is the focus for the new Everyman Palace Theatre season
There’s a strong focus on Cork in the Summer Season at the Everyman Palace Theatre with Cork playwrights, performers, and shows centred on the rich history of the region with new works on Tom Barry and O’Sullivan Beara.
Everyman Palace Theatre Artistic Director, Patrick Talbot, says that, in a busy season with an abundance of shows, Cork writers are at its heart.
“Shane Casey is one of Cork’s most talented young actors and it is fantastic to see him launch himself as a playwright. I know that his play “Wet Paint” will be the first of many titles from him.
Declan Hassett needs no introduction; his play “Sisters” was a huge success for him in 2005 with the legendary Anna Manahan and we are delighted to stage the first revival featuring Gerry McLoughlin and directed by Michael Twomey.
Neil Pearson, as both actor and director, has made a significant contribution to Cork theatre. His transposition to Cork of John Godber’s “Bouncers” was a massive hit for us here at the Palace. Arguably his most ambitious project to date is his new stage adaptation of “Guerilla Days in Ireland”, Tom Barry’s iconic War of Independence memoir, which focuses on the quite extraordinary exploits of an equally extraordinary Flying Column, under his command.
Another Corkman, and an exceptional man of the theatre, is Seán McCarthy. Don’t miss his dramatic homage to singer/songwriter Christie Hennessy: “When Jolie Met Christie” in September, which features a memorable performance by Aonghus McAnally as Christie.
Beyond Cork, we are delighted to welcome the Young Vic from London with its brand new production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane featuring Rosaleen Linehan and Derbhle Crotty. As part of Cork Midsummer Festival we host the world premiere of “Man of Valour” from the hugely innovative Corn Exchange company under the direction of Annie Ryan.
Aidan Dooley, who has become so synonymous with Tom Crean, returns with his brand new piece, “O’Sullivan Beara: The Last Gaelic Chieftain”, add in a few classic titles, wonderful soprano Cara O’Sullivan, the Santa Ponsa crew, Red Hurley, The Keegan Theatre, London Classic Theatre and hopefully some sunshine and it might all add up to a pretty good summer in Cork!”

29 Apr 2011 – Our Artistic Director Pat Talbot has announced he will step down from the role in October 2011. We wish him all the best.
Everyman Palace Theatre Artistic Director, Pat Talbot, has announced that he will be stepping down from his position in October next after ten years. He took up the role in October 2001.
Making his announcement Pat Talbot said:
“It has been a great privilege to guide the Everyman Palace Theatre through the last decade. With a strong emphasis on quality drama, and a diverse mix of other types of shows, it has been very satisfying to see such a huge increase in audience numbers over the years. The Everyman Palace is now one of the busiest theatres on this island. I believe the time is now right for me to step down and address the next phase of my career.
I would also like to thank Chairman Michael White and the board of the theatre for their constant support and the many staff and volunteers for their hard work and dedication to the success of their theatre. I would also like to acknowledge the integral contribution made by the Arts Council and Cork City Council.”
Everyman Palace Theatre Chairman Michael White said:
“Pat Talbot has given tremendous service to the Everyman Palace over the past 10 years. His creative vision and managerial skills have elevated the organisation to one of the foremost venues in Ireland. It has been a pleasure to work with Pat as a colleague and friend, I would like to thank him for his time with the Everyman Palace and wish him the best of luck with his new projects.”
15 Apr 2011 – Brendan Shine visits Cork for an intimate preview performance in the Flying Enterprise before his gig at the Everyman
We were delighted to welcome one of Ireland’s greatest balladeers Brendan Shine to Cork yesterday to meet some press and also to perform an intimate gig in the Flying Enterprise in conjunction with Cork’s 96fm. Brendan wowed the crowd with a top class performance and the standing ovation proved it.
Brendan returns to Cork to play the Everyman Palace Theatre on Friday April 29th after an absence of over ten years. One of our more enduring talents as both vocalist and accordionist Brendan will take a trip through some of his greatest hits including “Do You Want Your Old Lobby Washed Down?”, “Catch Me If You Can”, “Pubcrawl”, “Shoe The Donkey” and many more.
Special guest on the night will be Paddy Cole and if last nights gig is anything to go by audiences are in for a treat!
28 Mar 2011 – Dragon's Den success for Santa Ponsa comedy stars
Veteran comedians Frank Twomey and Pakie O’Callaghan proved business can be fun when they secured funding from all five Dragons on Sunday night – a first for the Den. The Cork duo have been entertaining the nation for years with their impressions of famous political figures – in particular Mary O’Rourke and Charlie McCreevey, and they currently star on Joe Duffy’s Funny Friday. But it was the hilarious stage show, Santa Ponsa or Bust, which won the Dragons’ funding. We are delighted to welcome back The original Santa Ponsa or Bust at the Everyman Palace Theatre from Monday June 13th.
Frankie and Pakie appeared in the Den as the two hapless Cork women Carmel and Noreen whose dream holiday turns into a nightmare when their husbands end up in Benalmedena Prison.
The duo both wrote and perform in Santa Ponsa or Bust, which is the first part of a trilogy of shows set in Cork’s North side and the Spanish holiday resort of Santa Ponsa. The show has been wowing audiences at the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork and the Dragons’ were convinced by the comedian’s pitch to take it nationwide. “We loved the show and its great to get behind the guys and take this to a bigger audience”, commented Bobby Kerr. “Sometimes its good to think laterally about investments – we’re all on a bit of a learning curve about the comedy world but really enjoying it”, Norah Cased added.
And what was it like entering the Den for the comic duo? “Much more nerve wracking than I expected but we had a bit of fun too with the sketch and once we had the Dragons laughing we relaxed a bit. This is a comedy show but it’s also a business and on the back of the Dragons’ Den investment a national tour has now been organised”, said Pakie O’Callaghan.
The original Santa Ponsa or Bust opens for a four night run here at the Everyman from Monday June 13th.
25 Mar 2011 – Keith Barry confirms final performances of his hit show The Asylum
Following sold out performances in the Everyman Palace earlier this year, the phenomenon that is Keith Barry has just confirmed two final performances of his hit show The Asylum. Keith will perform the show which sold 20,000 tickets in Dublins Olympia for the very last time on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 May.
In 2009, Keith was awarded a Merlin Award for Mentalist of the Year from the International Magicians Society. The Merlin Award is to magic what the Oscars are to movies with past winners of the Merlin Award being David Copperfield and Siegfreid & Roy. That same year Keith also won the title of Best Magician in Las Vegas during an an impressive 5 week residency at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casio.
He is known for an array of mystifying talents ranging from hypnotic effects such as inducing temporary amnesia and paralysis, to bizarre magic such as stopping his pulse and dying on stage! With all Keith’s shows in the Everyman Palace sold out earlier this year make sure you purchase your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
23 Feb 2011 – A NEW SEASON OF STARS FOR THE EVERYMAN SEASON LAUNCH
For all lovers of theatre, music, comedy, and entertainment, the Everyman Palace Theatre Cork, has something of a feast in store in its Spring/Summer Programme. In the space of just this week, the theatre hosts a visit by renowned cellist Julian Lloyd Webber; the sounds of the Rat Pack era with “In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Era” and the visceral thrill of “FML – F**k My Life”.
The Everyman is very pleased to welcome back Out Of Joint, a great British touring company under the direction of the legendary Max Stafford-Clark, with their production of “The Big Fellah” by Richard Bean, which has a unique and hilarious take on Irish republicanism and has been huge hit in the UK.
In the last ten years it has been a privilege for the Everyman Palace to welcome actors like Sir Donald Sinden, Ed Harris, David Suchet, Susannah York, Tom Conti, Steven Berkoff and Sir Tom Courtenay to MacCurtain Street. We continue in this vein now by presenting Edward Fox in “Trollope”, his homáge to Anthony Trollope, the great Victorian writer.
Old friends like Second Age, The Godot Company, Adèle King (Twink), Pakie O’Callaghan and London Classic Theatre return as does Aidan Dooley with his incredibly popular “Tom Crean Antarctic Explorer” and his new play “O’Sullivan Beara: The Last Gaelic Chieftain”. Tall Tales makes its first visit with “Moment” a new play by Deirdre Kinahan, Riverdance lead dancer Breandán de Gallaí introduces “NOCTÚ”, his exciting new dance show, and Niamh Gleeson’s hugely popular “Dear Frankie”, about Frankie Byrne Ireland’s first agony aunt, makes its Palace debut.
We salute Alan Ayckbourn, one of the world’s most prolific playwrights, with a production of “Relatively Speaking”, his hilarious breakthrough play. We also welcome “The Parting Glass” by Dermot Bolger and a new play in “The Man Who Left the Titanic” by Patrick Prior.
Musically we feature Sharon Sexton and her Liza Minnelli “Somewhere Under the Rainbow”; the big Broadway hit musical “Ragtime”, and we welcome back one of Ireland’s greatest balladeers, Brendan Shine with his Band.
The Everyman Palace Theatre also continues its €15 offer for Opening Night Tickets and the €7 Student Ticket has encouraged a whole new generation of theatre goers through the doors, which is a most welcome and positive development.
