About Us
The Everyman Palace in Cork is one of Ireland’s leading middle scale presenting and producing theatres. A listed building, it is a jewel of Victorian architecture, has 628 seats and is a favourite of artists and audiences for its intimacy and atmosphere.
Presenting an extraordinary range of live entertainment, the Everyman Palace has hosted performances in recent years by artists as diverse as Ed Harris, David Suchet, Danny La Rue, Thin Lizzy, Tommy Tiernan, the Abbey Theatre, the Chinese State Circus, Cara O Sullivan, Pat Shortt, Druid, Tom Conti, Mary Hegarty, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Paddy Comerford, Steven Berkoff, Circus Of Horrors, Niall Toibin, Brad Meldau, John Spillane, Blind Boys of Alabama, Tony Hegarty, Opera Theatre Company, Frank Twomey and Pakie O Callaghan,Paul Brady, Courtney Pine, Linda Kenny, The Fury Brothers and Davey Arthur and many more.
The theatre is the primary listening venue for the Guinness Jazz Festival and presents an annual traditional Christmas pantomime in association with CADA. Cinderella, the 2005/06 show broke all box office records for a Christmas show at the theatre.
The Everyman Palace produced the world premiere of Wrecks by Neil LaBute starring Ed Harris in 2005,(breaking all box office records for a play), as well as the premiere of Dark Week in association with the Cork Mid Summer Festival and Playgroup, which was nominated for a Special Judges Award in the Irish Times Theatre Awards. The theatre produced the Irish regional premiere of Art, and The Glass Menagerie starring Emmy Award winning actress Barbara Babcock. The theatre enjoyed enormous success in 2003/4 with four revivals of its production of Bouncers.
In association with the National Theatre of Great Britain the Everyman Palace presents an annual youth theatre festival entitled NT Connections. Performance schools like the Montfort’s, CADA, Donna’s Dance School and the Cork Arts Studio present their showcase performances annually at the theatre.
A unique feature of the Everyman Palace is that its Front Of House ushering staff is made up entirely of volunteers.
The theatre receives its primary funding from the Arts Council, with additional funding from the Cork City Council and FAS.
