Goldfish in the sun is an affectionate, funny and moving evocation of Cork city and its people set against the romantic but hard realities of a 1950’s summer.
Situated outside an old Georgian house in the shadow of Shandon steeple and beside the North Channel of the River Lee, the play explores the themes of place, home and belonging, the romance of escape to exotic places, and the central role the river and the sea plays in the lives of this Cork community.
It is Frank O’Connor meets Cinema Paradiso; a wonderful celebration of community, full of wit and humour.
Original songs by John Spilliane, Ger Wolfe and Ricky Lynch heighten the plays connection between Corks past and present, casting contemporary culture against the backdrop of the city’s history.
“Pauline, who plays the omnipotent and cranky Statia Kearney, puts incredible energy into her role and exudes professionalism in her acting skills.”
Bandon Opinion
“The play is also laden with comedy and the sharp mouth of cheeky young temptress Milly Kearney, superbly carried off by Karen Cogan, was very funny.”
