Just Paddy
21st - 23rd May 2009
Starring Paddy Comerford
Directed by Michael Twomey
With design by Jim Queally
Paddy Comerford’s first ever solo show, JUST PADDY, was directed by Michael Twomey. Cork’s best loved entertainer took to the stage in a show featuring his unforgettable Uncle Peter creation and also Paddy’s own colourful recollections of his long show business career.
The recipient of Cork Person of the Year award in 2004, the legendary Paddy Comerford has been entertaining Cork audiences for decades in pantomimes, musicals, revues and variety shows.
Paddy’s innate gift for comedic performance is recorded by playwright and journalist Declan Hassett in his book, Make ‘Em Laugh – A Golden age of Theatre, “ Paddy Comerford invites total attention from his audience by the merest self-deprecating shrug of his shoulder, the shy smile or a shuffle of his feet. And sometimes, Paddy will just stand there, doing absolutely nothing, as an entire audience collapses with laughter.”
'Although the man himself would almost certainly wave off any suggestion of the sorts, it seems the words legendary, Cork and theatre are to be forever entwined with Paddy Comerford.'
Cork Independent
'As a single performer he is so grounded in his own observations and experiences that, while his material remains essentially local, his appeal can reach beyond the limits of both generation and geography.'
Irish Times
MAKE ‘EM LAUGH – A GOLDEN AGE OF THEATRE by Declan Hassett is published by Everyman Palace Theatre in association with The Collins Press, and is priced at €16.99, available from the Everyman Palace Theatre box office and all good book stores. Click here to read more.
