It’s two days before the publication of a transcript that might decide the fate of a government. Though separated from Taoiseach Willie Dunne for many years, Rita Dunne’s identity has always been defined by her relationship with him. When scandal threatens the Taoiseach, Rita is torn between loyalty to the father of her daughter and the prospect of real freedom, finally, for herself.
Inspired by political events, Rita Dunne is a fictitious account of how a political family deals with scandal.
'Pat Talbot, who has acted in, designed and directed plays in Cork for many years, has given us a play where he imagines himself into this world in a way that is sympathetic and humane. The political skullduggery is the backdrop, but the human story is the real meat'
Evening Echo
'Talbot's play is often quite funny - the familiar gaze of hindsight providing ample opportunity for irony - and the exposition provides a faithful account of Ireland's political leadership over the last few decades'
Irish Times
'The skilfully built set is worthy of a TV sitcom, with its perfectly observed drawing room and hallway; and the music and lighting add misty romanticism. . .'
